Building the Fast Dog Brewery
Picked up the kegs from Gary friday and started planning out the brewery. Gonna work out the details in Visio since work gave me a laptop with it and I am a geek.
Anyone came up with some questions I posted on the BC site and figured I would post them here as well for posterity. I will try and use this thread and my site to document my build. I know I could do this easy and cheap but since I have nothing I am building right now and I am a total fabrication and engineering geek I am going to spend some time and build something cool.
I gotta get a tank for my millermatic but I will be building the stand out of box tube and cleaning it up well. Might look into getting it powder coated or just jump into doing the whole thing in SS. I ordered the jet burners yesterday from here. http://www.topfoodservice.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=KECABJ004&Category_Code= 2 for $69 with shipping. I will be looking for a long hose and natural gas QD to run out of the garage and to the T at the house supply. I plan on brewing in a semi permanent location in the garage so the water and gas will be unhooked when not in use. Everything will be on the stand.
A few ????
Do I need regulators for the Jet burners?
Where can I get natural gas quick disconnects?
Does anyone use a hop back to monitor the output of the MT for clarity? I have thought about this and how hard it would be to watch the output if I hard piped the outputs from the MT to the boil kettle.
What fittings(quick disconnect) have been the most successful, easiest to clean, and most affordable? I am an engineer and geek so bling factor is very important.
Should I buy a kit for my first all grain or just go straight to using a recipe and buying the raw ingredients?
As I build I will let you guys know if anyone wants to come buy and watch me flounder, I mean fabricate.
Well one step closer. Got the garage cleaned out this weekend and made room for Amy's Jeep, the BILs Honda and my motorcycle. Since the garage has like 10' ceilings we have a lot of room for loft shelves. I am going to put up a light duty one to story my kegs on and will probably store the stand outside with a cover on it. We are going to have the whole sideyard filled with conrete for parking the hauler and I can brew out there as well.
Also good news the refridgerator we had that I thought I ruined with the pressure washer has dried out and is working now. :D Now I just need to fix the chest freezer for the bonus room.
One step at a time. Once the side yard concrete is in and I build the gate I will start in on my brew structure.
Excellent Dude!!!! I am hoping my brewer is up and running this weekend!! See pictures of the sculpture I made last week. My kegs are out at the welders right now getting modified and I plan to use one burner for all stages untill i get the wife to let me spend another $100 on the rack.

Oh and here are acouple of pictures of my kegerator.

I got my burners for $26 each. I'll have to check the pics tonight at home. Work blocks most everything.
Did the 26$ include the tubing/regulators?
Nope, gotta go make a trip to Lowes or BBQs galore when I am ready.
Mike,
Have you gotten the jet burners going yet? I need to make the switch to natural gas, going through to much propane. Have you came up with a working design?
Garry
Been working on the gate for my side yard. Got pics, but I ran out of Argon on sat so its not done. Gonna have some left over steel from the gate to build my stand. Just need to settle on a design.
I did get the burners, they are evil looking in person. May be a few weeks before I can actually make anything work.
BTW we need to talk about hosting changes. I am not really happy with the performance lately.
I got some work done. I would have got more done but my chop saw died. I have to do the finish welding, put a stand in for the second filler, plumb the burners and make mounts for them, and finish the plumbing and wiring for a pump. Hopefully I can finish over the holidays. We are going to Oregon next week but will be back before christmas and I will be off for the rest of the year.

Got a discussion going over on BC about this. Those guys are great.
