Has anyone done the conversion of one of those 10 gallon cylindrical coolers that they sell at Home Depot? I haven't looked into it too far, but I'd like to draw on the experiences of others if possible before I start. Specifically, I'm looking for the size of hardware I'll need to replace the spigot.

I have not, but I know there are a lot of online DIY guides that go through how to do this. I will try and find one if you want.

I didn't use the same cooler you're talking about, but I did convert a cooler to my mash tun.

This is similar to what I've done... http://hbd.org/cascade/dennybrew/

I used one of the Rubbermaid/Gott coolers as a Mashtun for a while. They work great.

I used a 1/2" Weldless valve and a SS Domed false bottom.

Several places sell the 1/2" Weldless conversion kit. Check with Jim also. Here are the links for reference at Northern Brewer: http://www.northernbrewer.com/brewing/s-s-cooler-valve-w-barb.html

Here is the false bottom that I used and actual still use in my keg:

Check with Jim on these items, it will save you shipping.
