How does everyone control boilovers during the boil?  I know Andy uses foam control, and Kirk and Kevin use a fan.  I have tried the foam control and its better than nothing, but I am still having boilovers.  Perhaps I am not using enough, I don't know there are no instructions with the foam control.

I have thought about trying a fan but wanted to see what everyone else is using.  I have an extra post on my stand that I could easily mount a fan to, and have a place for an extra switch as well.

I use manual labor (stirring) and my eyeball/reflexes (turn down temp) to controll my boil overs.  It is rare that I have one using these methods.

With the burners I have its REALLY easy to get a boilover.  Once it gets boiling I have no problems, but getting there is a pain.  Especially when I do 10 gallon batches and over fill me BK like the last batch.  I'm glad Craig was there as I ran into the house and forgot about it.

You might consider detuning your jet burners.  The jet burners are way over kill for the application.  By reducing my 21 nozzles down to 16, I think that's what I have now, I have not had boil over issues.  I also use the foam control.  Also, it's best to use the foam control just as the hot break starts to occur.  When the foam control hits the foam it just breaks appart.  Again the detuning of the jet burner will help a lot.  IMHO

I used 8mmx8mm set screws to detune mine a bit. I need to buy more though. Just watch how far you screw them in, some of the wholes they will not bottom out.

I would also recommend you pay attention as you are boiling. You do not need a hard boil, just enough to make the water move. The only time I have a boil over is when I turn off another burner and don't adjust the boil burner.

I would like to get some sort of regulator for each burner.

I know for mine once I get a roll I can keep it there quite easily.  I want to try and detune mainly for 5 gallon batches and so I can have a wider range of control with the ball valves I have.  For a full kettle I can keep a nice roll at a bit less than 1/2 on the ball valve.  I am going to play around so that I can hold a roll in a full keg at aroun 3/4.
