Recent upgrades

So for Christmas I got to order new PIDs and RTDs for the brewery. The old control panel was suffering from heat soak and the Dwyer controller has melted, literally. For a new control panel I picked up an ammo box from the Army Navy store in Temecula.

The plan is to mount the ammo box on the wall next to the brewery and run conduit down to near the ground the cords for the pumps will reach and plug into a waterproof box with an in-use waterproof cover. The ammo box us enough room for the two PIDs, the switches, and a couple of fans to keep everything cool.

Deals on PIDs

While looking for new PIDs for my brewery and fermenter I came across this company that has good deals. I'll be ordering a few and posting me experience. They have straight temp controllers as well.

KEG COOLERS

I have 4 instrustrial rolling coolers. They are stainless steel and work great. Two of them can hold 18 half kegs and 2 others hold 14 half kegs. They are great for storing brews. Call reese 951-453-3899. I will take $400 each.

C02, Oxy, Nitro, Propane - "Action Gas" - Now with Two Locations

Hey All,

So in the past I had posted a place for the club members to get refiles for a discount. This was great if you were on your way through the Craft Brewing Company's back yard (Lake Elsinore) but not so much to have to drive all the way up here. Well with a lot of hard work and some luck. Tri-Angle Welding Supply has added a second location and changed its name to "Action Gas". The new place is right in Black Market's back yard. As you leave Black Market drive straight across Winchester to Enterprise Circle South.

Made some changes to my brewery

Changed the location of my filters and plumbed them in. Changed the inlet direction since the new location where my stand will be living will have the water hard plumbed from the left.

Then cleaned up the stand and painted it. I know it will all burn off but what the hell.

Put the stand in place tonight. Just need to finish up the plumbing and find a cover.

Glycol Chiller

So I built a glycol chiller, kinda like the Craft guys did and Andy did.

Started by notching an ice chest I got from my mom.

Notched the base of the AC unit.

Test fit to see how the base was going to lay out.

Fit the parts together

New Sparge/Recirculation lid

Before I started brewing again I needed to build a new sparge/recirculation manifold. I decided to build it into the lid for the mash tun.

The sparge lid also allows me to put a thermowell down into the mash thru the center mounting piece. This will let me take Mash temp measurements at any point I want and adjust for grain bed depth. Still need to get the thermowell.

The manifold is a length of soft 1/2" copper tubing. One end is capped the other has an ell on it that passes thru the lid.

What do I need?

Ok, I am finally diving into the world of kegging. I was able to get a awesome deal on a medium sized C02 tank and regulator from a friend, and I will be keeping my eye out for a small fridge on craigslist to store the keg in. I want to pretty much go the cheapest route possible for dispensing due to funds. Can someone make me a quick list of materials I'll need. Or if your feeling generous and have some time, maybe draw me out a diagram? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Josh

Mash Tun from a Home Depot Rubbermaid water cooler

Has anyone done the conversion of one of those 10 gallon cylindrical coolers that they sell at Home Depot? I haven't looked into it too far, but I'd like to draw on the experiences of others if possible before I start. Specifically, I'm looking for the size of hardware I'll need to replace the spigot.
